Trial to begin over Apple engineer’s death while using Tesla Autopilot

The engineer’s family is suing Tesla over its promises of safety and CalTrans over alleged dangerous road conditions. The defendants say the driver was playing a video game.

Plaintiffs may try to call Elon Musk to testify in a trial set to start this week over an Apple engineer who died while using the autopilot feature in a Tesla Model X. The company’s lawyers, and the state Department of Transportation, argue, however, that the driver repeatedly took his hands off the wheel to play a video game on his mobile device before the crash.
