California to legislate cause of action for doxing victims

The bill, AB 1979 aims to address the lack of criminal prosecutions for doxing under existing legislation.

A proposed California bill aims to provide victims of doxing a private cause of action against their attacker, providing specified damages and authorizing courts to order equitable relief. The move has been welcomed by an attorney who said there has been a lack of criminal prosecutions for doxing under existing legislation.
