‘Top Gun Maverick’ out of copyright danger zone

U.S. judge found that Tom Cruise’s Top Gun sequel did not rely on a magazine article that was the inspiration for the original movie.

A federal judge in Los Angeles dismissed a lawsuit that accused the production studio behind the 2022 Tom Cruise blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick” of infringing on the copyright of a 1983 magazine article that was the inspiration for the original film.
