Judge rejects $285K settlement over law firm’s data breach

The judge cited concerns about the calculation of the settlement fund, the cy pres choice for uncashed settlement checks, and the damages to the named plaintiff and others, former clients of The Zalkin Firm, which was hit by a data breach.

A San Diego federal judge denied a $285,000 preliminary settlement proposal between a putative class of sexual assault plaintiffs and The Zalkin Law Firm PC over a data breach that exposed personal information and case files from 524 clients.
