Hotel owner sues LA over restrictive 'residential' designation

The city's conduct in "unilaterally revoking" a decision reversing the hotel's residential designation "made a mockery of the public hearing process," the lawsuit alleges.

A new lawsuit claims the City of Los Angeles improperly designated a downtown hotel as "residential," placing it under an ordinance prohibiting conversion or demolition without approval from the Los Angeles Housing Department. The petition for writ of mandate claims that the city never notified the hotel's owners of its status as residential hotel under the Residential Hotel Unit Conversion and Demolition Ordinance.
