Judge rejects Target's attempt to dismiss stabbing case
The company had an affirmative duty to the customers who were stabbed by a man who entered a Los Angeles store and grabbed a knife from a shelf, and failed to provide an evidentiary basis for proving the incident was unforeseeable, a judge ruled.




A Los Angeles County judge on Tuesday rejected Target Corp.'s argument that it did not have a duty to secure its downtown Los Angeles premises against unforeseeable crimes. The ruling clears the way for a jury trial in October over a stabbing attack in 2022 that spawned three lawsuits against the retailer.
