California sues ExxonMobil over deceptive recycling claims
California is again targeting an oil major for what it describes as deceptive conduct, this time over ExxonMobil's alleged decades-long scheme to push recycling as the solution to plastic waste despite knowing its limitations.




A pair of lawsuits separately filed Monday in San Francisco County by the California attorney general and environmental organizations accused oil company Exxon Mobil Corp. of engaging in a decades-long campaign of deception to promote plastic use by misleading the public about the efficacy of recycling.
If the state prevails in its action, the company could be on the hook for billions of dollars in abatement funds.
