Former LA politician appeals conviction for soliciting favors for son
Alyssa D. Bell, who represents Mark Ridley-Thomas, told a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel that her client was trying to avoid the appearance of nepotism, but said his actions do not support a bribery conviction.
An attorney for former Los Angeles politician Mark Ridley-Thomas, currently appealing his conviction for soliciting favors for his son in exchange for facilitating county contracts for the University of Southern California, argued before a federal appellate panel that the convictions should be overturned.
