Santa Barbara farmer awarded $35M in fraud case over cannabis venture

The case arose from a 2017 agreement between the plaintiffs Francine Shulman, her sons and the defendants to cultivate cannabis on Shulman's land, splitting the profits 50-50.

A Los Angeles County jury awarded some $35 million to a Santa Barbara farmer and her sons in a fraud lawsuit against business partners over cannabis cultivation on their farm in a case encompassing some $45 million in joint damages and several liability. The defense has responded by filing a motion for a new trial, while an appeal on fraud charges levied against some defendants remains pending.
