Trump's DOJ surprises some with suit to block HPE-Juniper tech merger

Federal prosecutors challenged Hewlett Packard's $14B Juniper acquisition, signaling continued aggressive antitrust enforcement under President Donald Trump. Both companies plan to defend the deal, highlighting a competitive WLAN market.

Hopes by the business community that the Trump administration would take a freshly relaxed approach to mergers and acquisitions got a dash of cold-water Thursday as federal prosecutors sued in the Northern District of California to block Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co.'s announced $14 billion purchase of Juniper Networks Inc.

In a joint statement, the technology giants vowed to defend the transaction "vigorously" in court.
