LA talks on settled lawsuit don't obviate Brown Act, lawsuit says

L.A. City Council and officials were accused of using discussions on a settled lawsuit about homeless encampments as a ruse to avoid the state's open meetings law, a lawsuit claims.

A new lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles claims that it broke California law by holding closed sessions on its plans to reduce homeless encampments and used the excuse that it was discussing an already settled case.

"There's no question that parties in a lawsuit can talk to their attorneys in private, and that extends to the city of Los Angeles," Shayla R. Myers of Legal Aid Foundation, one of the filers of the complaint, said in a phone call on Thursday. "...
