State Bar prepares for surge in July exam amid fallout from February test

Even as it plans for a possible 10,000 applicants for the July Bar Exam, the State Bar faces renewed scrutiny after missing a key deadline Monday night.

The California State Bar is preparing for more than 10,000 people to sit for the July Bar Exam -- a surge fueled by law school growth, repeat test-takers from a troubled February exam, and broader shifts in the legal market.

But even as the State Bar plans for the influx, it faces renewed scrutiny after missing a key deadline Monday night to recommend scoring adjustments for the February exam, potentially delaying results and adding to applicants' uncertainty.
