A federal court ruling in Oregon last week is already making waves in California, where environmental groups are seizing on the decision to strengthen their legal challenges to logging projects.

In a notice filed Thursday, attorneys for the Sierra Club pointed to the Oregon ruling -- which rebuked federal officials for skirting key environmental reviews -- as fresh authority in a case seeking to block large-scale tree removal in the fire-scarred Giant Sequoia National Monument.
