Universities could face lawsuits over sports cuts post NCAA settlement, attorney says

Universities cutting sports programs due to the $2.5 billion NCAA NIL settlement may face lawsuits from athletes, with experts citing Title IX violations and legal risks for affected programs.

Attorneys warn that litigation could be imminent for universities that preemptively close down sports programs in anticipation of a $2.5 billion settlement between the NCAA and hundreds of thousands of college athletes over their name, image, and likeness rights.

As U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken in Oakland considers granting final approval to the historic, settlement known as the House case, universities across the country have begun cutting sports programs entirely.
