Court allows Bonta, housing agency to support Newport Beach in housing lawsuits
An Orange County judge has granted Attorney General Rob Bonta and the Department of Housing and Community Development permission to weigh in on lawsuits challenging Newport Beach's updated housing plan. The state argues that local charter provisions cannot override California's housing laws.





The Orange County Superior Court allowed California Attorney General Rob Bonta and the California Department of Housing and Community Development to file amicus briefs supporting Newport Beach in complying with state housing laws.
The court's decision, issued on Monday, allows the state officials to intervene in two lawsuits brought by local organizations challenging Newport Beach's housing element implementation.
