A golf course restaurant owner has sued the City of San Mateo, claiming that it knowingly leased a structurally compromised building prone to water intrusion and mold, leading to an emergency closure during dinner service in October 2024.

The plaintiff's counsel claims that when the Par3 at Poplar Creek golf course restaurant was shut down and "red tagged" 150 people were evacuated mid-meal, and 100 events were cancelled.
