Court upholds $4M verdict for LAPD captain harassed over misidentified nude photo

The 2nd District Court of Appeal upheld a $4 million jury verdict for LAPD Captain Lilian Carranza, who sued the city after a nude photo misidentified as her was circulated among officers. The court agreed she faced severe workplace harassment, and that LAPD leadership failed to stop the misconduct or discipline anyone responsible.

A police captain who learned that a nude photo misidentified as her was being circulated among LAPD officers - and was met with inaction from department leadership - has prevailed again in court.

A state appellate panel on Friday upheld a $4 million verdict in favor of LAPD Captain Lillian Carranza, finding that she endured severe or pervasive workplace harassment, with leadership declining to stop officers from sharing the photo.
