Judicial Council pushes back on bill expanding electronic recording in courts

Supporters say AB 882 is necessary to preserve accuracy and jobs in a shrinking profession.

The Judicial Council is pushing back against a bill that would expand the use of electronic recording in California courts--calling recent amendments to AB 882 burdensome, legally problematic, and a threat to judicial independence.

AB 882 was eligible to be heard on the Assembly floor on Tuesday but did not come up for debate by midafternoon. The bill would extend the ability to "use electronic recording equipment in a limited civil case, a misdemeanor or infraction case"...
