China launches International Mediation Institute in Hong Kong to expand legal clout
The launch of the International Mediation Institute in Hong Kong marks a symbolic yet significant step for China in asserting greater influence over global legal affairs--particularly among developing countries--by promoting a cost-effective alternative to traditional dispute resolution mechanisms.

On May 20, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign
Affairs announced that the International Mediation Institute would officially
launch in Hong Kong on May 30, 2025. The inauguration ceremony was attended by
Foreign Minister Wang Yi, along with representatives from 60 countries and 20
international organizations.
