EPA must reconsider outdated pollution rules, 9th Circuit says in split ruling

The decision sends the matter back to the agency, which now faces renewed pressure to reconsider long-standing wastewater regulations.

A divided 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency's refusal to revise technology-based pollution limits, guidelines and standards for industries ranging from petroleum refining to pesticide chemical manufacturing was arbitrary and capricious.
