Judge allows Anthropic fair use of bought books, not pirated ones

U.S. District Judge William Alsup partially granted Anthropic's fair use motion for purchased books but set a Dec. 1 trial for copyright infringement claims involving 7 million pirated books used to train Claude.

Anthropic PBC said Tuesday that it disagreed with a federal judge's partial ruling on summary judgment that paves the way for a Dec. 1 trial on authors' copyright infringement claims related to use of more thaFn 7 million pirated copies of copyrighted books.
