Jury awards $9.15M damages after boss admits calling former worker 'gimpy'

Plaintiff Peter Rogerson claimed he was repeatedly mocked for using a cane to walk, subjected to jokes for being a "cripple" and compared to a horse ready for the "glue factory" by senior leadership and colleagues.

A former employee of a global semiconductor company has been awarded $9.15 million following a Santa Clara jury's finding that he was unlawfully harassed based on his disability, after the employee's boss admitted at trial that he called him "gimpy" and did not feel ashamed about it.

In a phone call Friday, Linda Williams, a spokeswoman for the defendant, Power Integrations Inc., said, "We disagree with the jury's decision and plan to appeal."
