Transgender athletes ban sparks constitutional showdown between California and Washington

The U.S. Department of Justice gave California until Monday to comply with a ban on transgender athletes on sports teams that align with their gender identity. The state Department of Education rejected that order on Monday.

California's clash with the Trump administration over transgender athletes is shaping up as a constitutional test of federal power, state sovereignty and the future of Title IX.
