Ruling tests Supreme Court limits on nationwide injunctions after CASA decision

Less than two weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court restricted nationwide injunctions, a New Hampshire judge certified a nationwide class and blocked President Trump's executive order ending birthright citizenship. The ruling raises questions about whether class actions will become the new vehicle for nationwide relief.

When the U.S. Supreme Court limited the ability of district court judges to issue nationwide injunctions against presidential policies and executive orders on June 27, Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. concurred in the opinion but warned it might not have much practical effect.
