A Los Angeles lawsuit against art appraisers who misidentified a painting as an original Claude Monet valued at $3 million is the first of its kind in the state, according to the plaintiffs' counsel.

The complaint involves an art collector who said he discovered the painting was a $5,000 reproduction after it was looted from his property during the Palisades Fire.
