White House maneuvers to extend interim US attorneys' terms

With interim U.S. attorney appointments in California set to expire, the Trump administration is turning to a little-used statute to bypass potential judicial roadblocks.

The Trump administration may have found a workaround to avoid the possibility that federal judges in California might block the appointments of three U.S. attorneys whose interim terms are about to expire.

In the meantime, the U.S. Department of Justice has asked Southern District of California judges to appoint interim U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon to the position once his term ends Aug. 7. Judges will meet on Monday to discuss the matter, Chief Judge Cynthia A. Bashant said Friday. ...
