Huntington Beach fights state over sanctuary law in federal court

Huntington Beach argues California's sanctuary law violates federal supremacy, compels unlawful conduct, and exposes local officials to liability, countering the state's motion to dismiss their federal lawsuit challenging SB 54.

Despite California's contention that the city of Huntington Beach and its police department lack standing to challenge the state's sanctuary law in federal court, the city plaintiffs asserted they do because the law subjects them to violations of the U.S. Constitution and potential criminal liability.
