A multi-year legal battle between French film company StudioCanal and a film distribution company over the 2015 film "Legend" reached a significant turning point Monday with the issuance of a final statement of decision in favor of StudioCanal on most of its claims.

Judge Wendy Chang in Los Angeles confirmed a nearly $5 million arbitration award, paving the way for a second phase trial on damages.
