AG reviews allegations former Mariposa DA used meth

Mike McAfee's abrupt resignation has been followed by claims that he repeatedly purchased methamphetamine from a Merced man, prompting a referral to the state attorney general and raising questions about his past prosecutions.

Mariposa County District Attorney Mike McAfee, who abruptly resigned on Aug. 11, is now facing allegations of long-term drug use.

A Merced man, Gary Schisnewski, told the Mariposa Gazette he sold methamphetamine to McAfee "40 or 50 times" over two years and shared text messages, including threats from McAfee that he would jail him without bail.
