LA County judge orders reporter out of summary judgment hearing

For the second time in six weeks a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge ordered a reporter out of his courtroom during proceedings in a civil trial.

A Los Angeles County judge who said he was unsure of the rules, nevertheless ordered a newspaper reporter to leave a summary judgment hearing in an insurance dispute Friday.

At first, Judge Richard L. Fruin, who has been on the bench since 1995, said the reporter had not requested permission for press coverage of the lawsuit Guess filed against several insurers, remarking that 10 days of prior notice is required.
