Alsup concedes defeat to Trump in employee firings case
Senior U.S. District Judge William Alsup of San Francisco ruled that the Trump administration acted unlawfully in ordering the mass firing of probationary federal employees, but said reinstatement is off the table after a Supreme Court stay and agency changes, leaving workers with only "corrective letters" as relief.





A federal judge in San Francisco has conceded defeat even while ruling that the Trump administration acted unlawfully when firing thousands of probationary employees.
Senior U.S. District Judge William Alsup ruled Saturday that the U.S. Office of Personnel Management acted unlawfully by directing the firing of 25,000 probationary workers but said the usual remedy -- reinstatement -- does not apply because the U.S. Supreme Court stayed the case pending appeal in April.
