Attorney General Rob Bonta on Tuesday named Samuel Harbourt--an accomplished litigator who has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court and clerked for the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg--as California's next solicitor general, effective Oct. 1.

Harbourt has represented California before the U.S. Supreme Court, and with major legal battles intensifying between the state, Republican-led states, and the federal government, he is likely to have many more opportunities.
