San Francisco settles encampment lawsuit for $2.85M

The five-year stipulated judgment requires notice, photo documentation, and bag-and-tag storage timelines, with a built-in dispute process to limit court intervention.

On Thursday, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie approved a $2.85 million settlement resolving three years of litigation over the city's homeless encampment policies, closing a constitutional battle while preserving the city's authority to clear streets.

The agreement ends claims that the city's enforcement practices violated the Eighth and Fourth Amendments. San Francisco will pay $2,828,000 in attorneys' fees and $11,000 to each of two formerly homeless plaintiffs. ...
