Judge rules Long Beach airport noise law excludes taxi-back maneuvers

A judge upheld Long Beach's interpretation of its airport noise ordinance, finding taxi-back maneuvers are not covered, but gave petitioners 30 days to amend their claims of enforcement failure.

The City of Long Beach successfully demurred on Tuesday to a lawsuit accusing it of failing to properly enforce noise ordinances related to aviation training at the Long Beach Airport.

Judge Michael P. Vicencia found that the types of training maneuvers at issue, known as "taxi-back" maneuvers, do not fall under the noise ordinance. But he granted the petitioners leave to amend as to why the city has a ministerial duty to restrict them.
