A federal judge in Los Angeles issued a preliminary injunction requiring immigration officials to give detainees reliable, private access to legal counsel and prohibiting interference.

In a significant ruling stemming from federal immigration enforcement activities in Southern California, a federal judge in Los Angeles granted a motion for preliminary injunction against federal officials, mandating immediate and lasting changes to ensure people detained for illegal entry into the country have access to legal counsel.

The order by U.S. District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong stated that "the federal government is partially blocking access to lawyers."...
