Stanford project files 18 petitions, citing racial bias in Three Strikes sentences

Claiming fresh data shows significantly longer Three Strikes sentences for people of color, Stanford lawyers filed habeas petitions in eight counties seeking relief for defendants serving life terms for robbery and burglary as a third strike.

Citing new data it says proves that minority Three Strikes defendants are getting much longer sentences than white defendants, Stanford Law School's Three Strikes Project has filed petitions on behalf of 18 Black and Latino prisoners who are serving life sentences for robbery and burglary convictions as their third strike.
