For-profit colleges sue California over new financing rules

The complaint cites recent appellate rulings expanding First Amendment protections in education and business regulation.

The California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools filed a federal lawsuit challenging new state regulations that it says unfairly target for-profit colleges and violate their First Amendment rights.

The complaint filed Tuesday against the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation may benefit from a series of federal appellate rulings expanding the understanding of the First Amendment in both business and educational contexts.
