Pepperdine will stand on its dismissed complaint to expedite an appeal in a trademark suit alleging a Netflix series misused its Waves branding, while defendants argue the show is a protected expressive work.

Pepperdine University will stand on its dismissed complaint to fast-track an appeal in a lawsuit alleging a Netflix show misappropriated imagery tied to its Waves mascot and sports teams.

The notice came after U.S. District Judge Cynthia Valenzuela granted a motion by Netflix, Warner Bros. International and Kaling International to dismiss Pepperdine's complaint.
