Richard A. Curtis, a retired Los Angeles County Superior Court commissioner who spent most of his career guiding families through divorce and custody disputes, died July 27. He was 81.
Curtis became one of Los Angeles County's most experienced family law bench officers, viewing the courtroom as a place not simply to resolve disputes but to reduce the damage families -- particularly children -- carried away from them.
