Judge allows Catalina deer removal work to begin amid permit challenge
The case challenges the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's decision to exempt the conservancy's Restoration Management Permit from California Environmental Quality Act review.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Curtis A. Kin on Tuesday tentatively ruled for the Catalina Island Conservancy, allowing limited mule deer removal work to begin on Santa Catalina Island while hunting and animal-welfare groups challenge the state permit behind the project.
