Yamaha wins defense verdict in $320M off-road vehicle case
An Orange County jury rejected claims that defects in a Yamaha YXZ1000R caused or worsened a crash that left the plaintiff with a broken neck, nearly a year after another jury awarded $26.3 million over the same model.
Yamaha won a defense verdict in an Orange County products liability trial after jurors rejected claims that a defectively designed 2016 YXZ1000R all-terrain vehicle caused or worsened a 2019 off-road crash that left plaintiff John Van Camp with a broken neck.
Jurors returned the verdict on Sept. 1 after hearing closing arguments that day in a trial that began weeks earlier. Van Camp sought more than $80 million in compensatory damages and as much as $240 million in punitive damage...
