For Chief Judge Mary H. Murguia, being the first Latina to lead a federal appellate court matters less than making sure she is not the last.
"There is a lot of responsibility, you feel the weight of it, because it's so important that you do the best job possible," Murguia said Friday at the San Francisco La Raza Lawyers Association's Western Legal Forum. "I don't want to be the last. There has to be a next."
