Good Works: In House Helps Out

Hyundai Motor America's in-house legal team offers pro bono services to patients at Children's Hospital of Orange County.

THE VOLUNTEERS: Hyundai Motor America's in-house legal team

THE CLIENTS: Patients at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC)

THE WORK: Orange County's pro bono Public Law Center (PLC) set up a legal clinic at CHOC, where Hyundai's lawyers volunteer one Wednesday each month. Lawyers do intakes with clients and work out child conservatorship, guardianship, end-of-life planning (when a parent dies), and other issues where medicine and law intersect. PLC provides training, mentors, on-site resources and support staff. CHOC sets up the patient-attorney meetings based on need and provides translators when necessary.

THE IMPACT: This unique partnership helps the hospital manage some of the significant legal needs of sick children who are poor, have single or absentee parents, or will require supervision even after reaching the age of consent.

GET INVOLVED: To sign up your in-house team, contact Kirsten Kreymann at kkreymann@publiclawcenter.org .
