Who's Working Part Time and Where

Most of the firms in the California 50 have lawyers who work part time. The average number of part-time lawyers at the big firms is 21. Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman employs the highest percentage (69-nearly a quarter of its lawyers). Farella Braun + Martel reports the largest share of partners among its part-timers; Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell is tied for the highest percentage of women with Foley & Lardner, which also reports the largest share of minorities working part time. Only five firms reported having no part-time attorneys: Buchalter Nemer; Laughlin, Falbo, Levy & Moresi; Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith; Manning & Kass, Ellrod, Ramirez, Trester; and Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan.

(Although O'Melveny & Myers reported two part-time partners, it did not provide details on race or gender. Three firms did not report any figures on part-time lawyers: Irell & Manella; Kirkland & Ellis; and Nixon Peabody.)
