Transgender Law Center Needs Lawyers for Cooperating Attorney Network

The nonprofit seeks lawyers for its referral network.

THE VOLUNTEERS

Lawyers from all practice areas and regions are needed to join this Oakland-based organization's year-old Cooperating Attorney Network. The center, which fields about 2,500 requests for legal help nationwide each year, directs calls received on its Legal Helpline to attorneys in the network.

THE WORK

Lawyers in the network represent or consult with transgender and gender-nonconforming clients on a variety of issues. Some referrals may involve clients who can pay full price; others will need help at reduced fees or pro bono.

Specific legal issues include discrimination in employment and in access to health care, civil rights of incarcerated individuals, and barriers to obtaining accurate government identification documents.
