SF-ABOTA holds mock trial program

The pilot program was spearheaded by Craig M. Peters of Altair Law and Richard Schoenberger of Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger, with support from a grant provided by the ABOTA Foundation.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, the San Francisco chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates hosted its inaugural Flash Trial Program at the San Francisco Superior Court. Presiding Judge Rochelle East facilitated the event.

The pilot program was spearheaded by Craig M. Peters of Altair Law and Richard Schoenberger of Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger, with support from a grant provided by the ABOTA Foundation. More than 40 participants took part, including seasoned trial lawyers and emerging practitioners from both plaintiff and defense firms, many of whom are prospective SF-ABOTA members.

Designed as a "low-risk, low-investment" trial experience, the program gave attorneys an opportunity to sharpen their trial skills in front of mock jurors.

Among the participants were Noah Phillips and Jasleen Singh of Altair Law, who tried a case involving a plaintiff seriously injured by a tennis ball struck during a game. Kevin Morrison, past SF-ABOTA president and an Altair Law attorney, volunteered as a judge in one of the program's 10 trial courtrooms.
