
VAN NUYS - When Superior Court Commissioner Sarah J. Ellenberg took her oath of office exactly a year ago, she stepped into the courtroom wearing the judicial robe of her late father - its sleeves billowing, its symbolism perfectly tailored.
"It has big wide arms, so they slip up," she said, "but I wore it for my swearing-in. Before he passed, he had dementia, and I was able to tell him I was on the commissioner list - and that, he remembered."
