SAN JOSE - Since joining the bench in October, Santa Clara County Superior Judge Lori E. Pegg has had to get up to speed quickly.

Just a few months into her tenure, the judge currently assigned to the misdemeanor calendar had a rush of defendants early this year who sought to go to trial under deadlines provided by state law.
