REDWOOD CITY - After 20 years on the bench, San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Craig Parsons presided over his first death penalty trial, in a police officer killing case.
It began on an ominous note. The weekend before jury selection in March 2009, four Oakland police officers were killed in the line of duty.
