SANTA ROSA - Judge Rene Auguste Chouteau has a certain rhythm about him. He's a longtime surfer and seems laid-back, yet he doesn't like to waste time. He blinks infrequently, giving off an impression of seriousness. Lawyers said he has a wry sense of humor, and more than one referred to him as an "old-school gentleman."
